July Accountability Group: Happy Hour Fitness

July is one of my favourite months of the year. Summer is in full swing and it's my birthday month (who doesn't love their birthday month...age is just a number and I plan on staying young at heart forever)!

BUT with the summer months here that means drinks on the patio and delicious food. During the cold winter months I dream about summer and my first thoughts are always relaxing in the sun with drinks & food. Even though we don't have an extra long summer in New Brunswick (or in Canada) we seem to make the most of it while it is here. I suspect this is because of our natural behaviour that when we are deprived of something (in this case the summer sun) for so long as soon as we get a taste of it again we make sure we make the most of it! I have always preferred to workout and get in shape in the winter. I find it a lot easier because we are all bundled up and most people don't even realize what I am doing until summer arrives. However, once summer hits it can be super easy to reverse all that hard work that was put in during those winter months for those 'summer bodies' of ours. Over the years, I have struggled during the summer (which is probably the actual reason why I prefer the winter months for my health & fitness journey) and have been known to add a few pounds on during some summer months in the past. It was always frustrating and discouraging because I only realized what was happening towards the end of the summer when I would try and get back into my winter clothing. The good thing is that as the summers passed I got better and better at learning how to continuing on living my summer life that I love and enjoy while still staying on track with my health & fitness goals. I realize that this can be a huge problem for many people and that's why my July Accountability Group starting July 18, 2016 which will run for 28 days (with the option to continue on) will focus on how to stay on track during these busy tempting summer months while still eating foods and drinks we love in moderation. Bonus: your patio isn't just for drinks and lounging. It can be turned into your workout station if you wish to workout outside! Having said all of this, you may just be starting your journey and wanting the extra support or you might be be further along in your journey and wondering if this group is right for you. This group will accommodate the beginner who needs simple workouts and nutrition, the intermediate who is trying to find balance and the advanced who wants to try something new, challenging and different. The July group will focus on simple & quick clean eating meal planning/food preparation (and proper serving sizes) with quick but effective workouts that we can squeeze into our summer routine (including meal planning/preparation & workouts to do when we are on vacation). Click here to learn the value of food and the basics of clean eating if you are not familiar with them. Additionally, the group will focus on some basic stretches to help improve flexibility and performance in our workouts as well as helping the joints move through their full range of motion (which decreases the risk of injury) and allows the muscles to work more effectively. I focus on living a healthy lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle is not a diet or fad instead it is a way of life. I will guide you through changing your mindset to a healthy lifestyle and remind you that treat meals and rest days are important in your new lifestyle. Many times people will lose weight but fail to change the way they think. When this happens 9/10 the person will gain the weight back again. That is exactly why I focus on helping people change their lifestyle and as a result they begin to lose weight and feel good about themselves.
