Colour Chemistry Of Leaves
The leaves on the trees are naturally green due to the chemical compound chlorophyll. In order for chlorophyll to be produced the leaves require warm temperatures and sunlight. As the weather changes and the amount of sunlight in the day decreases the chlorophyll production slows down. Any chlorophyll in the plant also begins to decompose.
This is the chance for the other chemical compounds in the leaves to become more noticeable or new chemical compounds to be produced. These others chemical compounds are responsible for the other colours we see in the leaves during the fall of the year. Having said all that, don't forget to just enjoy the pretty colours during this time of year. :)
